A Fort Thompson man pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter.
Austin P. Abernathy, 20, faces a maximum penalty of eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
Abernathy was driving west on Pomani Road in Fort Thompson on Dec. 5 when he struck the victim with his vehicle. He was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Abernathy did not stop after the collision and the victim died due to injuries suffered in the collision.
U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Feb. 6.
