Man dead after chase by police near Chamberlain

CHAMBERLAIN — One man died and another suffered life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle crash that followed a pursuit Friday around 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 90 about two miles east of Chamberlain.

CHAMBERLAIN — One man died and another suffered life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle crash that followed a pursuit Friday around 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 90 about two miles east of Chamberlain.

The crash occurred during a pursuit by Chamberlain Police, who responded to a report of a possible drunken driver.

The victim was the passenger in a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria that left the interstate and rolled at a high rate of speed. Both the passenger and the driver were thrown from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The passenger was dead at the scene. The driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken to a Chamberlain hospital and transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.

No further information was immediately provided by authorities.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. The Chamberlain Police Department, Kimball Police Department and Brule County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
