Ellsworth 28th Bomb Wing named best in Air Force

RAPID CITY (AP) — The best bombers in the Air Force are in South Dakota.

RAPID CITY (AP) — The best bombers in the Air Force are in South Dakota.

The 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base returned home from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana on Thursday night with the Fairchild Trophy. It's the first time the wing has won the trophy in 22 years.

The 28th competed against five other bomber teams, intercontinental ballistic missile teams and security forces teams. Col. Mark Weatherington says the wing's achievement is "the result of consistent training and dedication of Ellsworth airmen."
