Area volleyball roundup: Freeman advances in District 7B action

FREEMAN — Freeman advanced to the District 7B championship match with a win over Marion 25-22, 25-13, 25-9 Thursday night in high school volleyball action.
Kaitlyn Stern had 13 kills for the Flyers in the win. Dina Soulek had 14 digs and Lauren Hinckley and Shelby Bauer each had 13 digs. Grace Gering had 36 assists and Chelsey Steen had five aces.
Kylie Hughes had six kills for the Bears. Devin Nelson had 10 digs and Katherine Luke had nine assists. Josie Schmidt had three aces.
Freeman will host Parker today in the district championship.
James Valley Christian 3, Wolsey-Wessington 0
WESSINGTON SPRINGS — James Valley Christian defeated Wolsey-Wessington 25-16, 25-21, 25-23 in the second round of district volleyball action Thursday night.
Sarah Wedel had 23 digs for the Vikings and Tara Nihart had 12 assists. Ariana Zuccaro and Jaclyn Loban each had three service aces.
For the Lady Warbirds, Mikki Heller had 10 digs, Bridgitt Clarke had eight assists and six aces.
James Valley Christian will play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in the championship match today.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Wessington Springs 0
WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket advanced to the district championship with its win over Wessington Springs Tuesday night 25-14, 25-17, 25-12.
Rachel Selland had eight kills for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket and Morgan Larson had six aces. Candace Page-Marten had 22 assists and 11 digs in the win. Nicole Carda and Rachelle Moore each had 10 digs.
Traci Orth had eight kills for the Spartans and Devin Tebay had nine digs. Shelby Sandmann had 15 assists and Shyanne Kopfmann had nine blocks.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will play James Valley Christian in the District 9B championship today.
Hanson 3, Avon 0
MENNO — Hanson earned the District 11B title with its win over Avon Tuesday night 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.
Hanson was led by Ashley Robinson with 15 kills and 10 digs. Lindsey Hoffman had 13 digs and two aces. Jess Hoeltzner also had two aces. Kendra Cheeseman had 16 assists in the win and Cassidy Graham had 10 assists.
Lanae VanGerpen led Avon with 13 kills and 17 digs. Shayna Nagel had 24 digs for the Pirates.
Hanson plays Andes Central in the Region 6B championship game Tuesday night.
Wagner 3, Platte-Geddes 0
PLATTE — Wagner defeated Platte-Geddes in the District 10A championship Thursday.
Wagner won by set scores of 26-24, 25-19, 25-20 and was led by Devon Brecke, who had 18 kills and 13 digs. Alexa Cimpl had 14 kills and Breanna Cuka had nine kills. Nicole Weber had 17 digs and three aces.
Jessa Doom had 45 assists and Sydney Breen 14 digs.
For Platte-Geddes, Kellee Griese had 20 kills, 15 digs and two aces. Kelli Sprik had 25 assists and 9 digs and Maddy Tegethoff had 14 digs and one ace.
Wagner hosts Tri-Valley in the region championship at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Parker 3, Canistota 0
FREEMAN — Parker defeated Canistota 25-12, 25-4, 25-12 in the second round of the District 7B tournament Thursday.
Anna Leloux had 11 kills and two aces for the Pheasants. Amber Dysthe had 30 assists and 13 digs. Morgan Hay had 12 digs and Micalanne Hanten had 10 digs.
Haley Jerman had five kills for the Hawks and Carolyn Schroeder had 11 digs.
Parker plays Freeman in the district championship today in Freeman.
White Lake 3, Plankinton 1
KIMBALL — White Lake defeated Plankinton 25-13, 29-27, 22-25, 25-17 in the District 10B semifinals Thursday.
White Lake was led by Maria Nightingale, who had four aces, 15 kills, and 14 blocks. Stephanie Ness had six aces and Ali Haines had 28 assists.
For Plankinton, Katie Anderson had 15 kills. Jordan Achterberg had 11 kills, three blocks and two aces. Sachiko Risseeuw had 56 digs and three aces.
White Lake will play Kimball in the district championship today in Kimball.
Kimball 3, Corsica/Stickney 2
KIMBALL — Kimball upset Corsica/Stickney 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 15-13 Thursday to advance to the District 10B championship.
For Kimball, Kelcey Long had 18 kills, 12 digs, and three aces. Anne Knippling had 21 kills and Anna Pazour had 18 digs. Mary Kroupa had 35 assists and three aces.
For Corsica/Stickney, Cassie Bamberg had 14 kills and four aces. Brianna Kuyper had 20 assists and four aces. Jackie Dethlefsen had eight kills.
Kimball will play White Lake today in Kimball.
Gregory 3, Winner 1
BONESTEEL — Gregory won over Winner 25-15, 25-18, 25-27, 25-22 to earn the District 13A title Thursday.
Cheyenne Salonen had 16 kills for the Gorillas. Baili McCance had 12 kills and 20 digs. Taylor Anshutz had 29 digs and Shelby Rajewich had 24 digs. Paxten Johnson had 46 assists, 20 digs and two aces. Tanya Talsma had 11 kills.
Winner was led by Jessica Olson had 16 kills, three blocks, 7 digs and one ace. Dayna Diez had 11 kills and three blocks and Abby Norrid had 24 digs. Kristin Hennebold had 18 assists and 20 digs.
Gregory will face Pine Ridge in the Region 7A championship Tuesday in Mission.
Andes Central 3, South Central 2
NEW HOLLAND — Andes Central claimed the District 12B championship with a win over South Central 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 25-12, 15-6 Thursday night.
Andes Central was led by Kellie Winckler with 19 kills, 19 digs and eight blocks. Krista Winckler had 11 kills, 19 digs and three aces. Morgan Flying Hawk had 14 digs and three aces. Sierra Svatos had 35 assists.
For South Central, Taylor Pistulka had 18 assists and two aces. Siera Johnson had nine digs and Jamie Borszich had 10 kills.
Andes Central will play Hanson for the Region 6B title Tuesday.
Tri-Valley 3, McCook Central/Montrose 1
COLTON — Tri-Valley defeated McCook Central/Montrose 23-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-18 in the District 9A championship Thursday night.
McCook Central/Montrose was led by Kelly Binder, who had 14 kills, 25 digs, three aces and two blocks. Sierra Miles had 14 kills and 10 digs. Katie Binder had 21 digs. Steph Heumiller had 38 assists, 17 digs and two aces.
Lyman 3, White River 0
PRESHO — Lyman advanced to the Region 7B championship with its win over White River 25-11, 26-24, 25-17 Thursday night.
Anna Flitner led the Raiders with 10 kills and 30 digs. Chesney Garnos had five aces and 11 assists. Kimberly Welter nine kills and Jessica Welter had three blocks. Leah Herman had 20 digs and Bailey Almond had nine assists.
Lyman will learn its opponent for the region championship after Edgemont and Philip play today.
Miller 3, Chamberlain 1
MILLER — Chamberlain’s season ended with a four-set loss to Miller Thursday in the District 12A playoffs.
Set scores of the match were 25-16, 25-15, 14-25 and 25-15.
Chamberlain ended its season with a 14-13 record as Kennedy Wagner had 12 assists and seven kills. Laura Pazour had five aces, Jesse Brownell had 17 digs and Haley Pasion added 15 digs.
Miller has a 21-6 record and plays in the Region 6A championship at a date and time to be determined.
