ARMOUR (AP) - A South Dakota sheriff who was acquitted of taking public items and listing them for sale on eBay has resigned, saying he is "just done."
According to media reports, Wednesday was the last day on the job for Douglas County Sheriff Troy Strid. He submitted his resignation last week. During Tuesday's County Commission meeting, he cited everything that has happened since he took office Jan. 1 and said he was "tired of getting sick, coming to work every morning."
Strid earlier this year was charged with petty theft for allegedly stealing public property from the city of Delmont and Douglas County. A judge acquitted him, saying evidence was lacking.
One of Strid's deputies recently was indicted for allegedly defrauding an insurance company he worked for in 2008.
