Area volleyball roundup: Plankinton, Kimball advance in district play

KIMBALL — Plankinton rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Mount Vernon in five sets in the first round of the District 10B high school volleyball tournament in Kimball.

KIMBALL — Plankinton rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Mount Vernon in five sets in the first round of the District 10B high school volleyball tournament in Kimball.

Set scores of the match were 18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24 and 17-15.

Katie Anderson led Plankinton (8-16) with 12 kills, Jordan Achterberg had nine kills and three aces, Marena Moore had four aces and Sachiko Risseeuw had 23 digs.

Mount Vernon’s season ends with a 7-19 record and were led by Dani Stolz, who had 11 kills and five blocks. Hannah Parsons added 18 assists and five aces.

Plankinton plays at 6 p.m. Thursday in Kimball against White Lake in the semifinals of the District 10B tournament.

Kimball 3, Mitchell Christian 0

KIMBALL — Kimball swept Mitchell Christian in the first round of the District 10B tournament Tuesday.

Set scores of the match were 25-13, 25-7 and 25-10.

Mary Kroupa had 26 assists and eight aces for Kimball (11-12) and Kelcey Long added nine digs and nine kills.

Mitchell Christian’s season ends with a 1-21 record. Mikayle Jacquot had 10 digs for MCHS.

Kimball plays at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Kimball in the semifinals of the District 10B tournament against Corsica/Stickney.

Chamberlain 3, Crow Creek 0

MILLER — Abby Handel had 10 aces to lead Chamberlain past Crow Creek in three sets in the first round of the District 10A tournament Tuesday.

Set scores of the match were 25-13, 25-8 and 25-17.

Handel added 13 assists for Chamberlain (14-12) and Laura Pazour had 10 kills.

Chamberlain plays at 7 p.m. Thursday in Miller against Miller in the District 10A semifinals.

Howard 3, Dell Rapids 0

OLDHAM — Kelsey Dawson had 11 kills as Howard swept Dell Rapids St. Mary in the first round of the District 4B tournament Tuesday.

Set scores of the match were 26-24, 25-10 and 25-19.

Arianne Wunder had nine aces and nine digs for Howard.

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 3, Howard 1

OLDHAM — Oldham-Ramona-Rutland ended Howard’s season with a four-set victory Tuesday in the semifinals of the District 4B tournament.

Set scores of the match were 26-24, 17-25, 25-19 and 25-8.

Erika Bamsey had nine kills for Howard, which ended its season with a 6-19 record.

Lyman 3, Kadoka Area 0

PRESHO — Anna Flitner had 12 kill and 27 digs to lead Lyman by Kadoka Area 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 in a District 13B semifinal Tuesday night.

Jessica Welter added seven kills and four blocks and Kimberly Welter chipped in four blocks for Lyman. Chesney Garnos had 14 assists and three aces for Lyman, which faces White River in the district title match at 7 p.m. Thursday in Presho.

Winner 3, St. Francis Indian School 0

WINNER — Jessica Olson had seven kills to lead Winner to a 25-18, 25-22, 25-5 win over St. Francis Indian School in a District 13A semifinal Tuesday night.

Kristin Hennebold had 17 assists and Sara Husher added eight assists for Winner, which plays Gregory in the district title match at 7 p.m. Thursday in Bonesteel.

Wagner 3, Bon Homme 1

WAGNER — Jessa Doom had 40 assists and Nicole Weber recorded 15 digs to help Wagner beat Bon Homme 25-10, 18-25, 25-9, 25-17 in a District 10A semifinal Tuesday night.

Devon Brecke had 19 kills and Alexa Cimpl added11 for Wagner, which is 27-3 and plays Platte-Geddes on Thursday in Platte.

Raquel Sutera had nine kills and thre blocks and Kayli Adams recorded 15 assists for Bon Homme, which finished its season 21-7.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Iroquois 0

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Bridgett Clark had 36 assists to lead Wolsey-Wessington to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-23 win over Iroquois in a District 9B semifinal Tuesday night.

Sydney Tschetter had 11 kills and three blocks to lead Wolsey-Wessington, which plays James Valley Christian in the district title match Thursday in Wessington Springs.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 3, Dakota Christian 2

ANDES CENTRAL — Tripp-Delmont/Armour defeated Dakota Christian 25-22, 7-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-12 Tuesday night in the first round of the District 12B tournament.

For the Nighthawks, Kelli Batterman had 10 kills and five aces and Hannah Just had nine kills and three aces. Erin Chrichton had three aces. Julie Mingo had 19 assists and LaNae Fuerst had 16 assists.

Amber Baan Hofman led the Cadets with eight kills, nine assists, and 16 digs. Amy Overweg had eight kills and four aces. Brooklyn Vander Pol had seven kills, 15 assists, and three aces. Kim Veurink had 10 assists and 16 digs and Jessica Kaemingk had 15 digs.

Andes Central 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0

ANDES CENTRAL — Andes Central advanced to the championship of the District 12B tournament with a win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour 25-12, 25-11, 25-21 Tuesday night.

Kellie Winckler led Andes Central with 16 kills and three aces. Krista Winckler had 11 digs and Morgan Flying Hawk had 10 digs. Sierra Svatos had 24 assists and nine digs. Dennisha Johanneson and Flying Hawk each had three aces.

Kelli Batterman led Tripp-Delmont/Armour with five kills, nine digs, and two aces. Macey Fuerst had 13 digs and two aces. Julie Mingo had five aces and Erin Chrichton had two aces.

Andes Central plays South Central in the District 12B championship Thursday night at a location yet to be determined.

Gregory 3, Todd County 0

GREGORY — The Gregory Gorillas defeated the Todd County Lady Falcons 25-12, 25-13, 25-14 in the first round of the District 13A tournament Tuesday night.

Gregory was led by Shelby Rajewich, who had seven kills, eight digs, and eight aces. Paxten Johnson had 20 assists and 10 digs and Tanya Talsma had nine kills.

Gregory plays against Winner on Thursday night in Bonesteel.

Platte-Geddes 3, Parkston 0

PLATTE — Platte-Geddes defeated Parkston 25-14, 25-11, 25-21 in the first round of the District 10A tournament Tuesday night.

Platte-Geddes was led by Kellee Griese with 20 kills and 10 digs. Kelli Sprik had 27 assists and Maddy Tegethoff 14 digs. Josie DeGroot had two aces and Kelly Knudson had one ace.

For Parkston, MacKenzie Lee had six aces and Callie Zirpel and Melea Hoeffner each had two aces. Krista Radke had seven assists and seven digs.

Platte-Geddes plays Wagner on Thursday night in Platte.

South Central 3, Marty 0

COLOME — South Central defeated Marty 25-10, 25-7, 25-6 in District 12B tournament action Tuesday night.

For South Central, Whitney Hutchison had five kills and Jamie Borszich had three kills. Taylor Pistulka had 15 assists and Ashley Green had four service aces.

Stats were not available for Marty.

South Central 3, Colome 1

COLOME — The Cougars of South Central moved on to the District 12B championship match with a win over Colome 25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 Tuesday night.

Whitney Hutchison had 11 kills for the Cougars in the win. Jamie Borszich had eight kills. Siera Johnson had 11 digs and two aces and Courtney Dummer had 13 digs and one ace. Taylor Pistulka had 20 assists.

Kelsey Pravecek and Skylar Forgey each had eight kills for the Cowgirls. Tracy Routh had 24 assists in the game. Tessa Lester had three service aces and Rachel Shippy had two aces.

South Central plays Andes Central Thursday night at a site yet to be determined.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, West Central 1

MONTROSE — McCook Central/Montrose defeated West Central 17-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-19 in District 9A action Tuesday night.

Sierra Miles had 16 kills and two blocks for the Fighting Cougars. Steph Heumiller had 26 assists, 17 digs and three aces. Chelsie Wallace had 22 digs. Katie Binder had seven aces.

Brittany Campbell and Madison Kuehl each had 26 digs for the Trojans. Shelby Sieverding had seven kills and Kuehl had five kills. Erin McMahon had 11 assists. Kuehl and Sadie Swier each had two aces.

McCook Central/Montrose plays at Tri-Valley Thursday for the District 9A title.

Scotland 3, Menno 2

MENNO — Scotland recorded 32 kills in their win over Menno 23-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 15-13 in District 11B tournament play Tuesday night.

Ashley Alvey had 14 kills, 13 digs, and seven aces for the Lady Highlanders. Carley Skorepa had six blocks and Amber Alvey had 11 digs. Jaymie Barrett had 10 digs and four aces.

Tess Goehring led the Wolves with six kills, five blocks, and 36 digs. Courtney Schaeffer had 15 digs and 17 assists. Brittany Haberman had 10 digs and three aces.

Avon 3, Ethan 1

MENNO — Avon defeated Ethan 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-15 in District 11B tournament play Tuesday night.

Lanae VanGerpen had 10 kills for Avon. Kari Rucktaeschel had three aces and Voni Finck had two aces. Shayna Nagel had 13 digs and Emily Mudder had 11 digs.

Shelly Tilberg led Ethan in kills with 12. Whitney Endres had 16 digs and Kaci Tuttle had 17 assists.

Avon plays for the 11B championship Thursday night in Menno.

Freeman 3, Freeman Academy 0

FREEMAN — The Freeman Flyers had 33 kills and 50 digs as a team in their win over the Freeman Academy Bobcats 25-18, 25-5, 25-18 Tuesday night in the first round of the District 7B tournament.

For the Flyers, Kaitlyn Stern had 10 kills, 10 digs and six service aces. Lauren Hinckley had eight kills, 13 digs and two aces. Dina Soulek had 13 digs and Shelby Bauer had 10 digs. Carly Uecker had seven aces and Grace Gering had 26 assists.

For the Bobcats, Christina Hofer had 13 digs. Natalie Miller and Brittney Ries each had one ace.

Freeman plays Marion Thursday night in Freeman.

Canistota 3, Bridgewater-Emery 2

FREEMAN — Canistota defeated Bridgewater-Emery 21-25, 25-17, 30-28, 25-23, 15-11 in the first round of the District 7B tournament Tuesday night.

For Canistota, Natasha Letcher had seven kills, two blocks, 17 digs and six aces. Lexy Sandman had 10 kills and Chloe Nielsen had nine kills. Cassi Townsend had 34 assists, 12 digs, and 3 aces. Carolyn Schroeder had 31 digs and Brianna Buseman had four aces.

For Bridgewater-Emery, Mackenzie Schultz had 28 assists, 15 digs, and two aces. Elizabeth Schnabel had 14 kills and 10 digs. Aly Hanssen had 16 digs and two aces and Marissa Schwans had 11 digs and three aces.

Canistota plays Parker Thursday in Freeman.

Hanson 3, Scotland 1

MENNO — Hanson defeated Scotland in the semifinals of the District 11B tournament Tuesday.

Set scores for the match were 21-25, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-13.

Ashley Robinson had 10 blocks and nine kills for Hanson (21-4), Kendra Cheeseman had 17 assists and Keira Goergen had 14 assists.

Scotland ends it season with a 12-15 record. Carley Skorepa had 16 assists in the loss.

Hanson plays at 7 p.m. Thursday in Menno against Avon in the District 11B championship game.
