MENNO — The Germans from Russia Heritage Society will hold its annual Octoberfest on Saturday in Menno.

The festival, which has been held each year for more than two decades, will feature an authentic German meal and a performance by the Elk River German Band. The show will be followed by a dance. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in a drawing for a trip to Branson, Mo.

The meal is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and the show that will follow is scheduled to begin an hour later.

Tickets, which cost $15, are still being sold, but organizers urge anyone who would like to attend to purchase them as soon as possible, because they are doubtful any tickets will be available the night of the festival.

Gary Jerke, a member of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society and one of the organizers of the event, hopes it will help residents learn more about their ancestry.

“There’s something special about the traditions we hold on to,” Jerke said. “This will help people connect to that part of their life that gives them meaning and understanding.”
