To the Editor:
For 100 years, the slogan of the Boy Scouts of America has been “Do a good turn daily.” I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 75, which has been chartered by the Methodist Men of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Many outstanding service projects have been completed by Scouts over the years in the Mitchell area.
A requirement of achieving Eagle Scout rank is to plan and carry out a service project. For my project, I chose to do a gently used coat drive to benefit the Mitchell Salvation Army.
Many people in our community are not able to afford a good, warm winter coat. The coat drive will help provide a coat for those who are in need.
If you have a coat that you no longer need, please place it on your doorstep on Saturday, Oct. 22, by 9 a.m. and my fellow scouts and I will pick them up.
Please help me help others with this project.
Please note that this is separate from Scouting for Food, which also takes place on Oct. 22.
