FRIDAY'S BRIEFS: Chamberlain girls' cross country team wins Region 4A title

CHAMBERLAIN — Maci Burke helped the Chamberlain girls’ cross country team to the Region 4A title Wednesday.

CHAMBERLAIN — Maci Burke helped the Chamberlain girls’ cross country team to the Region 4A title Wednesday.

Burke took second place in the girls’ race in a time of 16 minutes, 9 seconds. She was second to Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s Destiny Beautiful Bald Eagle, who finished in a time of 15:49.

Anna Byers was fourth for Chamberlain in a time of 16:31 and Madeline Tyrell finished seventh in a time of 17:16 for the Cubs, who finished first in front of runner-up Platte-Geddes in the girls’ team standings.

Rochelle Wynia led the Black Panthers with a third-place finish.

In the boys’ race, Winner’s Donovan Brother of All finished second and Platte-Geddes’ Keagan Ringling was third. Brother of All had a time of 17:01 and Ringling, who led P-G to a second-place team finish, finished in a time of 17:13.

Chamberlain’s Michael Krogstad was the fifth-place finisher in the boys’ race.

DWU men picked fifth in conference, women picked last

The Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball team was picked to finish in fifth place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, and the women’s team was picked to finish in last out of 11 teams.

Northwestern College, which won the GPAC regular season men’s title last season, was picked to finish in first place. The Northwestern women, which won the NAIA National Championship, was picked to finish first.

The DWU men finished last season with a 24-9 record and finished 12-6 in the GPAC and finished in third in the regular season.

The DWU women finished with a 6-25 record and 2-16 in the GPAC and finished last in the conference.
