YANKTON (AP) — The Yankton Fire Department has received a 300-pound piece of steel from the World Trade Center.
According to media reports, the remnant of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will form the centerpiece of a memorial at Yankton Fire Station No. 2.
Yankton firefighter Mike Villanueva left for New York City last week.
Villanueva says he viewed the 3,000-mile, 51-hour round trip as a pilgrimage. It became even more intense when he got to meet New York City firefighters and visit the Ground Zero memorial.
An open house displaying the steel will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the station.
