Former Corsica/Stickney standout Whitney Kuyper took 62nd place at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24 at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Kuyper is a freshman for the Northern State University cross country team and finished the race in 24 minutes, 15.6 seconds.
Kuyper competed in the Women’s Division II race, which had 270 runners.
Freeman native Lillie Koerner also ran in the Women’s Division II race and finished in 66th place.
Koerner is a freshman for the Dordt College cross country team and finished the race in 24:19.70.
Mitchell native Charlee Nelson had a total of 200 assists over five matches for the University of Sioux Falls volleyball team this past week.
Nelson, a freshman setter for USF, had 66 set assists in a five-set win over Black Hills State on Saturday. Earlier on Saturday, Nelson had 42 assists in a four-set loss to South Dakota School of Mines.
In USF’s sweep of Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday, Nelson had 36 set assists. On Monday, Nelson had 32 set assists in a sweep of Minot State and 24 set assists in a three-set loss to Jamestown.
Platte native Emily Johnson had a big week for USF, too. Johnson led the team in kills three times this past week.
Johnson, a freshman outside hitter for the Cougars, had 20 kills in the five-set win over BHSU. She added 16 kills in the four-set loss to S.D. Mines and 10 kills in the sweep of DWU.
Wagner native Brett Jensen had an interception for the University of Sioux Falls football team’s 35-10 win over William Jewell University Saturday.
Jensen, a junior defensive back for the Cougars, returned the pick 19 yards. He added three tackles in the win.
Redshirt freshman tight end Tait Johannsen, also a Wagner native, had three catches for 37 yards and senior linebacker Brandon Anderson, of Marion, tied for second on the team in tackles for the game with four. One of the tackles was for a loss of two yards.
