Area volleyball roundup: Knippling, Long help Kiotes beat Cowboys

KIMBALL — Anne Knippling had 14 kills and Kelcey Long had 13 kills in Kimball’s 3-0 win over Colome in a high school volleyball match Monday evening.
The Kiotes won in set scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-22.
Long added three blocks, Anna Pazour had four aces and 11 digs and Mary Kroupa had 24 assists for Kimball, which is 7-8 and hosts Chamberlain today.
Colome’s Kelsey Pravecek had three blocks, three kills and two aces and Mackenzie Fawcett had three kills and three blocks. Tracy Routh added six assists for the Cowboys.
Colome, which won the JV match, is 7-11 and plays at Ainsworth, Neb., today.
Wagner 3,
Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0
ARMOUR — Wagner’s Devon Brecke had seven aces and 15 digs and Alexa Cimpl added a team-high 12 kills in a 3-0 win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Monday night.
Cimpl added 13 digs and Sydney Breen had 11 digs, while Breanna Cuka had six blocks and 10 kills. Jessa Doom had 24 assists.
TDA’s LaNae Fuerst had eight digs and six aces, while Erin Crichton had a team-high four kills. Crichton and Kelli Batterman had six digs apiece.
TDA (4-11) plays Thursday at Plankinton and Wagner — which won the JV match — hosts Scotland today. Wagner is 16-3.
Marion 3, Freeman Academy 0
MARION — Marion swept Freeman 25-12, 25-16 and 25-17 to pick up its 11th win of the year Monday.
Marion’s Ashley Rosenwald-Muller had a team-high eight kills and added nine digs and 10 aces. Devin Nelson had eight assists and 10 digs and Katherine Luke had 11 assists and 12 digs. Kylie Hughes had seven kills.
Freeman Academy’s Natalie Miller had nine kills, six digs and seven aces. Christina Hofer had nine digs.
Marion (11-7) hosts Menno today, while Freeman Academy (0-9) travels to Centerville Thursday.
James Valley Christian 3,
Mount Vernon 0
HURON — James Valley Christian’s Tara Nihart had 14 assists and six aces in a sweep of Mount Vernon Monday night.
JVC took the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-14.
Mount Vernon was led by Hannah Parsons’ eight assists and Alisha Northrup’s five kills. MiKayla Weiss had nine digs and Dani Stolz had three blocks.
JVC is 15-3 and Mount Vernon is 4-12 and plays Chamberlain Thursday.
Plankinton 3, Mitchell Christian 1
Katie Anderson’s big night led the Plankinton volleyball past Mitchell Christian Monday at the Mitchell Christian School gym in four sets.
Set scores of the match were 25-15, 25-17, 18-25 and 25-17.
Anderson had 22 kills, three blocks and six digs for Plankinton (5-8). Kallyn Prangley added 44 set assists.
For Mitchell Christian (1-14), Brittany Zoss had 20 digs, seven aces and five kills.
Plankinton plays today at White Lake and MCHS plays at home Thursday against Hanson.
McCook Central/Montrose 3,
Baltic 2
SALEM — The McCook Central/Montrose volleyball team held off a comeback from Baltic for a five-set victory Monday.
Set scores of the match were 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 24-26 and 15-11.
Steph Heumiller had 38 set assists, 15 digs and six aces for MC/M (9-8), Sierra Miles had 14 kills and Chelsie Wallace had 16 digs.
McCook Central/Montrose plays today at Howard.
Chamberlain 3, Crow Creek 2
CHAMBERLAIN — The Chamberlain High School volleyball team won the first two sets but eked out a five-set victory Monday night.
Set scores of the match were 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25 and 15-9
Chamberlain’s Haley Pasion had six aces and 17 digs. Jaymee Knippling finished with 13 kills and two blocks and Logan Pickner had 10 kills. Kennedy Wagner had 17 assists.
Chamberlain (8-7) plays at Kimball today.
Corsica/Stickney 3, Dakota Christian 0
NEW HOLLAND — The Corsica/Stickney volleyball team swept Dakota Christian Monday.
Set scores of the match were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18.
Brianna Kuyper had 18 set assists for Corsica/Stickney (10-6) while Emily Van Roekel had 15 digs and six aces, Missy Johnson had 12 digs and Cassie Bamberg had 10 digs and nine kills.
Kim Veurink had eight kills for Dakota Christian (3-12).
Corsica/Stickney plays Thursday in Corsica at home against South Central, and Dakota Christian plays today in Tyndall against Bon Homme.
Avon 3, Beresford 2
AVON — The Avon volleyball team battled back from a set down to beat Beresford 3-2 Monday.
Set scores of the match were 26-24, 19-25, 10-25, 25-21 and 15-6.
Lanae VanGerpen led Avon (9-7) with 11 kills and 15 digs. Shayna Nagel added 21 digs.
Avon plays today in Burke against South Central.
Lyman 3, Kadoka 1
PRESHO — Anna Flitner had a double-double in the Lyman volleyball team’s 3-1 win over Kadoka Monday.
Set scores of the match were 25-10, 19-25, 25-13 and 25-19.
Flitner had 12 kills and 22 digs for Lyman (9-6) and Leah Herman had 21 digs. Bailey Almond had 14 set assists, Chesney Garnos had five aces and nine set assists and Sarah Muirhead had four aces.
Lyman plays Saturday at a tournament in White River.
Viborg/Hurley 3, Hanson 2
ALEXANDRIA — The Viborg/Hurley volleyball team, ranked seventh in Class B, came back from a 2-1 deficit for a five-set win over Hanson Monday.
Set scores of the match were 27-25, 19-25, 17-25, 25-20 and 15-12.
Lindsey Hoffman had 17 kills and 14 digs in the loss for Hanson (15-3), Jessica Hoeltzner had 13 kills and Kendra Cheeseman had 25 set assists and 22 digs. Kelli Wenande added 17 digs, Leah Marsh had 12 digs and three aces and Abby Kayser had 10 digs.
Haley Jorgensen had 19 kills and 10 digs for Viborg/Hurley (15-4) and Michelle Miller had 44 set assists.
Hanson plays Thursday at Mitchell Christian.
West Central 3, Howard 1
HARTFORD — The West Central volleyball team beat Howard in four sets Monday.
Set scores of the match were 26-24, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-23.
With 12 kills, Kelsey Dawson led Howard (4-13) in the loss. Arrianne Wunder had 15 digs and six aces, Taylor Haas had 12 digs and five aces. Howard had a total of 24 aces as Sydney Thompson and Mariah Noid also had five aces each.
Howard hosts McCook Central/Montrose today.
