STURGIS (AP) — A 9-year-old girl was air-lifted to a Rapid City hospital after being hit by a train while walking home from school in the western South Dakota city of Sturgis.
Authorities did not immediately identify the girl. Police say she was hurt Monday when the train's horn and yelling conductor failed to get her attention and she was hit on the head.
Officers say the girl was conscious and alert when they arrived at the scene, and Lt. Geody VanDewater tells the media that her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
