Weekend area volleyball roundup: Parker’s coach sets volleyball wins mark

TYNDALL — Parker’s Jill Christensen became the all-time wins leader in South Dakota Volleyball history with 622 career wins.

TYNDALL — Parker’s Jill Christensen became the all-time wins leader in South Dakota Volleyball history with 622 career wins.

Parker won the 16-team Cavalier Clash volleyball tournament Saturday with a sweep of Wagner in the championship.

Christensen passed Gregory’s Donna Schmitz, who set the record Tuesday with her 618th win, was also at the tournament and has 620 wins.

The set scores were 25-21 and 25-12.

Parker, which is the second-ranked team in Class B in the South Dakota Sportswriters Association Poll, is 17-0 after it won six games at the tournament.

Tessa Weeldreyer and Anna Leloux led Parker with seven kills in the championship match and Leloux added six total blocks. Amber Dysthe had 14 set assists.

For Wagner (12-3), Devon Brecke had 10 kills. Jessa Doom added 19 set assists and 10 digs and Sydney Breen had 12 digs for the Red Raiders, who are the third-ranked team in Class A.

Parker went 3-0 in pool play and 3-0 in the championship bracket. Wagner also went 3-0 in poll play and 2-1, with the loss to Parker, in the championship bracket.

Bon Homme won its pool with a 3-0 record and lost in the first round of the championship bracket to Dakota Valley 27-29, 28-26 and 25-20.

Gregory went 2-1 in pool play and made the championship bracket before losing to Alcester-Hudson in the first round of the championship bracket 25-18 and 25-21.

Corsica/Stickney and Andes Central went 1-2 in pool play and Parkston and Tripp-Delmont/Armour went 0-3 in pool play.

Bridgewater-Emery Tournament

EMERY — The Hanson volleyball team defeated Ethan in three sets to win the Bridgewater-Emery tournament Saturday.

Set scores were 14-25, 25-23 and 25-19.

In the championship, Ashley Robinson had eight kills and three blocks for Hanson (9-2), Kendra Cheeseman had 12 set assists and nine digs and Lindsey Hoffman had 14 digs.

For Ethan (8-4), Shelly Tilberg had 11 kills and four aces, Kaci Tuttle had 25 assists and 10 digs and Whitney Endres had 15 digs.

Hanson defeated Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in the first round and Avon in the winner’s bracket to get to the championship match. Ethan defeated Canistota and Bridgewater-Emery.

In the third place match, Avon defeated Bridgewater-Emery 25-22 and 25-18.

Lanae VanGerpen had six kills and Shayna Nagel had 10 digs for Avon (4-5).

Mackenzie Schultz had 11 set assists and eight digs for Bridgewater-Emery (3-6).

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeated Canistota 19-25, 25-22 and 25-6 to finish in fifth place and Mount Vernon beat Colman-Egan 25-19 and 25-13 to finish in seventh place.

Lyman 3, Bennett County 3

MARTIN — The Lyman volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Bennett County Saturday.

Set scores were 25-11, 23-25, 17-25, 25-22 and 15-9. Lyman improved to 5-4 on the season.

Anna Flitner led Lyman with 16 kills and 23 blocks. Leah Herman added 36 digs and Caitlin Uthe had 23 digs. Lyman served 95 percent and had three aces and 12 set assists from Bailey Almond. Chesney Garnos also had 11 set assists.

Lyman plays Tuesday in Presho against Wall.
