LETTER: Good people, speak up

As I sat in the Right to Life booth last week, these thoughts came to mind: Why do so many people glance at the Right to Life booth and turn their head away?

To the Editor:

As I sat in the Right to Life booth last week, these thoughts came to mind:

Why do so many people glance at the Right to Life booth and turn their head away? This also happens when the prayer warriors are praying in front of the abortion clinics. Don’t they want to face the fact that abortions are killing our babies, 45,000 every day?

The majority of people know that abortions are wrong, polls show, so why do they remain quiet? Even though the majority of people oppose abortions, taxpayers are paying for them. One of the most common types of abortion taxpayers fund is the dangerous abortion pill, RU486, which is prescribed as late as seven weeks after conception. By the time the baby is 5 weeks old, the heart is beating, the nervous system is forming, his or her arms and legs are distinguishable. By the time the baby is 7 weeks old, the ears, fingers and toes are formed and he or she is about 1 inch tall. RU486 comes with serious complications for the mom: prolonged bleeding, incomplete abortion, excruciating pain, post abortion syndrome and even death.

I have assisted in deliveries and cannot imagine any nurse assisting a doctor and watching him kill a baby. Partial birth abortion is illegal now, but it is still legal to abort a child up until the moment before that child would be born.

We wonder why our country is in such turmoil when we have no respect for Jesus’ little children and have taken him out of our schools, public places and our homes. I really believe the answer to changing the direction of our world is going is to pray and act.

As the saying goes, bad things happen when good people don’t act and speak up.
