Parkston native Kelli Fiegen totaled 34 kills in three matches for the SDSU volleyball team Friday and Saturday at the Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
Fiegen’s best game came in the second match on Friday when she had 17 kills and five blocks in a 3-1 win over Belmont. Fiegen, a junior middle blocker, set a school record with a .773 hitting percentage in the four-set match.
In SDSU’s first match on Friday, Fiegen had 11 kills and five blocks in a 3-1 win over Appalachian State. On Saturday, Fiegen had six kills and three blocks in a 3-0 loss to Kansas.
Her performance at the Jayhawk Invitational helped her land on the all-tournament team.
Mount Vernon native Jake Steffen had 1.5 sacks in the South Dakota State football team’s 29-28 win over Southern Utah University Saturday at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings.
Steffen is a senior at SDSU and is a starting defensive end.
Steffen finished with seven total tackles — four assists and three solos.
Winner High School graduate and SDSU tight end Seth Daughters also caught three passes for 19 yards in the win.
Daughters started at tight end for the Jackrabbits and is a junior as SDSU.
Hanson High School graduate Shea Williams had 4.5 tackles in the University of South Dakota football team’s 37-20 loss to Air Force Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Williams, who is a senior and starts at middle linebacker for the Coyotes, had one tackle for loss.
Parkston native Danielle McCann finished sixth for the SDSU women’s cross country team at the Ron Pynn Invitational on Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D.
McCann, a junior, finished the race in a time of 19 minutes, 33 seconds.
Wagner native Jilanne Doom finished in 32nd place for the USD women’s cross country team at the Creighton/ Nebraska Double Duals on Saturday Omaha, Neb.
Doom, a sophomore, finished the race in a time of 22:06.16. Her teammate, Alena Laber, a Parkston native, finished the meet in 35th place in a time of 22:30.22.
