VIVIAN — When a clerk left $4,000 unattended recently at the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop in Vivian, a man snatched it and walked away.

The Lyman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Aug. 19 theft.

“It was just a crime of opportunity,” said Sheriff Steve Manger.

Reportedly, a white male in his late 20s or early 30s entered the gas station that morning and stole nearly $4,000 that was left unattended. Manger said the assistant manager left the money unattended to assist one of the clerks.

Manger added that surveillance footage showed the man stole an energy drink prior to taking money from the counter.

Manger said his office is working to identify the suspect, who was caught on surveillance video outside the store.

He was driving an early 2000s tan Ford F250 or F350 pickup, regular cab, with toolboxes on both sides of the truck bed.

Anyone with information on the crime is encouraged to call the Lyman County Sheriff ’s Office at 605-869-2267.
