FORT THOMPSON — Wilfred Keeble was elected as Crow Creek tribal chairman last week.

Keeble was named interim chairman after then-chairman Duane Big Eagle was found guilty in federal court two weeks ago on bribery and conspiracy charges.

Keeble was unanimously elected to the chairman position by the council last week.

Council member Peter Lengkeek said he is looking forward to moving forward with the council and rooting out the corruption in tribal government.

Big Eagle, 61, was found guilty on two counts of conspiracy to bribe a tribal official and one count of bribery involving an agent of a tribal government. He was acquitted on one count of bribery.

Big Eagle is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
