WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The official comment is still “no comment” in Wessington Springs regarding the future of the district’s superintendent.

As of Monday morning, Lance Witte still retained his position, according to a school official who asked not to be identified.

Meanwhile, School Board President Tate Von Eye said Monday morning that Witte was not listed on the board’s meeting agenda for Monday evening.

Witte was arrested Aug. 5 for driving under the influence in Hanson County, his second DUI arrest in less than a year. The arrest happened just three days after he pleaded guilty to driving with a revoked license, which arose from the previous DUI arrest and conviction.

Von Eye also said he didn’t know whether the board would discuss Witte and said if it did, it would be in executive session “because it’s a personnel issue.”

Witte is scheduled for a court appearance in Hanson County later this month.
