Platte’s Dean, Fairfax’s Tech highlight Scottie Stampede

SCOTLAND — John Dean, of Platte, and Lacey Tech, of Fairfax, both won an event at the 46th annual Scottie Stampede rodeo Saturday and Sunday. There were 273 entries at the rodeo and Hollenbeck Rodeo Co. of Winner provided the stock for the 32nd straight year.

SCOTLAND — John Dean, of Platte, and Lacey Tech, of Fairfax, both won an event at the 46th annual Scottie Stampede rodeo Saturday and Sunday.

There were 273 entries at the rodeo and Hollenbeck Rodeo Co. of Winner provided the stock for the 32nd straight year.

Dean won the senior men’s breakaway with a time of 2.8 seconds to take home a prize of $292.32.

Tech won goat tying with a time of 8.2 seconds, almost a full second better than second place. Tech won $268.80. Abby Jo Eckstaine, of Kennebec, finished in fourth place in the same event and won $33.60 with a time of 10.3 seconds.

In saddle bronc, Avon’s Kole Wynia finished in second with 68 points, one point behind first place, and claimed $253.44. Preston Kafka, of Wagner finished one point behind Wynia for third place for $200.64.

Jeff Bertus, of Avon, finished a point out of first place with a score of 80 in bull riding and won $368.64. Joey Koupal, of Dante, finished sixth with 54 points for $76.80.

In bareback riding, Andrew Hall, of Wagner, finished in third place with 62 points and won $153.60.

Jody Marone, of Chamberlain, finished in third place in ladies barrel racing with a time of 16.28 seconds for $381.84.

Tom Varilek and Mick Varilek, both of Geddes, teamed up with Steve Klein, of Sioux Falls, for a third-place finish in team penning in a time of 42.4 seconds and won $150.40 each.

Michael Wiedman, of St. Charles, had a time of 8.4 seconds in steer wrestling for a fourth-place finish. He won $81.60.

Marlan Wiedman, of Herrick, teamed up with Michael Wiedman, of St. Charles, for a sixth-place finish in team roping in a time of 8.8 seconds. They won $99.60 each.
