Whitewood mayor faces recall election
WHITEWOOD (AP) — The mayor of the western South Dakota town of Whitewood is facing a Sept. 13 recall election.

Opponents who circulated petitions to force the election accuse Deb Schmidt of misconduct and failing to perform her duties. They claim she violated city policy involving employees.
Schmidt says her actions were backed by the City Council and City Attorney.
She has been the mayor of the small town for about a year and a half.
