Loretta Lynn has canceled eight shows due to health problems, including the Aug. 23 show that was scheduled to kick off the Corn Palace Festival.

Tanya Tucker will perform in her place, Corn Palace Director Mark Schilling said. All tickets for the Lynn show will be honored.

“Same time, same date, same price,” Schilling said. “Tuesday, August 23, at 7 p.m. We won’t reissue tickets this close to the show, so your tickets are good.”

People who want refunds can get them, he said.

Tucker’s first hit was released in 1972. She recorded “Delta Dawn” when she was just 13 years old.

Tucker followed that with a string of chart-toppers, including “What’s Your Mama’s Name?” “Lizzie and the Rainman” and “San Antonio Stroll.”

Lynn announced on her website Monday that she will undergo knee reconstruction surgery and needs time to recover, forcing her to call off the shows.

“I’m sad to have to cancel any shows for my fans, but they tell me I’ve just got to stay off this knee for a while,” she said.

Earlier this year, Lynn, 75, missed scheduled dates due to heat exhaustion and dehydration and knee surgery.

Schilling said while the official word on the cancelation was issued Monday, he was made aware of the potential two days earlier.

“We’ve been working on things as we were hearing this since Saturday,” Schilling said.

Schilling said while Tucker, 52, will replace Lynn for the Corn Palace Festival, Lynn may still play here this year or in the near future.

“We’re still hoping that at some point we can bring her back to the Corn Palace,” he said.
