LETTER: Taxpayers should be allowed to use new shooting range
The Daily Republic got it right this time with the article concerning the two-shot miss at the attacking pit bull being printed next to the article about the fabulous new practice range at the land fill. It is obvious that our officers need a place to practice if the dog was close enough to cause the officer to feel that it was necessary to fire his weapon but couldn’t hit the target.By: Vale Krietlow, Mitchell

As to the statement from the City Council that the public will not be able to use the facility, I presume that the members are going to pay back the taxpayers the $100,000 or more (I don’t know if the labor and equipment from the landfill is included in this total) that was appropriated without the consent of the voters. We could probably call it the Obama Range, or remove the people from office that think our taxes are their personal fund.
I am not a member of the Mitchell Rifle and Pistol Club, but I know that when they had a range, the law enforcement people were allowed to use it.
It’s time we go back to government of the people, not government over the people.
