Lower Brule man pleads not guilty to assault

A Lower Brule man pleaded not guilty this month to domestic assault by a habitual offender and assault with a dangerous weapon.

A Lower Brule man pleaded not guilty this month to domestic assault by a habitual offender and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Charles Allen Grey Owl, aka Raymond Keith Grey Owl, 42, entered the not guilty plea Monday in federal court. He was indicted on the charges by a federal grand jury on July 19.

Grey Owl allegedly assaulted a victim on April 9 in Fort Thompson. The indictment also alleges Grey Owl had previous convictions for assault against a spouse and intimate partner.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years in prison on each count.

A trial date has not been set. Grey Owl is currently in the custody of the U.S. marshal.
