WINNER — A Winner man hopes to file a petition this week to overturn a resolution the City Council recently passed.

John Meyer said he feels Ordinance 808, which changes who the mayor can fire, is wrong. He is currently out gathering signatures for the petition and informing the public about the issue, he said Tuesday.

The Winner City Council passed the ordinance during a special meeting June 23. The ordinance will take effect by the middle of this month if the petition is not filed. Meyer’s referendum drive, if successful, will prevent the ordinance from taking effect and force a public election on the issue.
