National Guard unit heads to Afghanistan today

PIERRE (AP) — A South Dakota National Guard unit is scheduled to leave for Afghanistan Tuesday for a one-year overseas deployment.

PIERRE (AP) — A South Dakota National Guard unit is scheduled to leave for Afghanistan Tuesday for a one-year overseas deployment.

KCCR radio reports that the 187 members of the 200th Engineer Company have been training since early May at Fort McCoy, Wis.

The bridge-building unit is based in Pierre with detachments in Mobridge and Chamberlain.
