Northwestern Energy spokesman Tom Glanzer said 5,293 customers in Mitchell, Dimock, Ethan and Parkston were without power for three minutes.

Glanzer said the problem was tied to a computer-operated area in a Mitchell substation. He was seeking further information Tuesday morning.

Public Safety Dispatch communications supervisor Marlene Haines said the Public Safety Department was without power for a short time until its generator kicked in and restored service. Haines said there were no reports of accidents caused by the lack of traffic signals.
