Mitchell’s Katrina Young will be joining the South Dakota State University swimming and diving team this fall.

Young, who graduated from Mitchell High School last month, has been a swimmer for the Mitchell Aquatic Club since she was a child.

Bormann plays in USGA junior event

SIOUX FALLS — Parkston’s Jordan Bormann shot an 87 to tie for 10th at a United States Golf Association Junior Girls’ Qualifier Tuesday at Westward Ho Country Club.

Katelyn Reynolds, of Los Angeles, won the event with a 74. Jenna Roadley, of Manitoba, Canada, carded a 78 to take second. The top two qualifiers will go on to play in the 2011 USGA Junior Girls’ Championship in July at Olympia View Golf Course in Illinois.

SF to keep Summit League tourney

SIOUX FALLS — The Summit League basketball tournament will continue to be played in Sioux Falls through the 2014 season, it was announced Tuesday by member schools’ presidents.

Sioux Falls had competition from Tulsa, Okla.

The championships have set attendance records over the past few years. South Dakota State University is part of the Summit League.

Raptors ranked third in Class B

Dimock/Emery is third in Class B in this week’s South Dakota amateur baseball poll.

The Raptors are followed by Canova at No. 4, Tabor is tied for No. 6 and the Parkston Mudcats are No. 8. Humboldt-Hartford-Montrose is No. 9 and Salem is ranked 10th in Class B.

The Brandon Valley Merchants are No. 1 in Class A

Here are this week’s rankings:

Class A — 1. Brandon Valley Merchants; 2. (Tie)Renner Monarchs and Brookings Cubby’s; 4. Pierre; 5. Yankton. Also Receiving Votes: Vermillion Red Sox.

Class B — 1. Madison; 2. Dell Rapids Mudcats; 3. Dimock-Emery; 4. Canova; 5. Redfield Dairy Queen; 6. (Tie) Tabor and Wynot, Neb.; 8. Parkston Mudcats; 9. Humboldt-Hartford-Montrose; 10. Salem. Also receiving votes — Crofton (Neb.), Dell Rapids PBR, Aurora and Garretson.
