Mitchell Christian School is still searching for a head volleyball coach two and a half months before the season starts.
The position opened up several months ago, according to Mitchell Christian Superintendent Brian Held, when coach Heather Wipf resigned after she had her first child.
“My first child, Olivia, was born in February and my priorities just changed,” said Wipf of why she resigned. “It’s not that I didn’t want to coach volleyball anymore. I love the game and the girls, but family comes first.”
Wipf, who is 30, added that she would love to come back and coach again someday.
Last year Mitchell Christian finished with a 10-11 record and lost a 3-0 decision to Hanson in the first round of the District 10B tournament.
Since Wipf resigned, Held has been searching for a new head coach, but he has not found the right candidate yet.
“There has been some interest,” he said. “There hasn’t been the right fit for the program and for the school. We have discussed it with some candidates, but we haven’t had any formal interviews.”
Held declined to comment on who has applied for the job.
Held did not set any timetable for when a new coach will be announced.
“Soon as we have the right candidate,” he said. “Obviously, we want to hire someone as soon as we can.”
