Several South Dakota counties are eligible for aid after Gov. Dennis Daugaard requested a disaster declaration from the president in mid-May.

Federal funding will be available for damage caused by spring flooding that started March 11.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will cover 75 percent of the eligible costs.

The state will pay 10 percent and the applicant will pay the final 15 percent.

FEMA offices will be established in several locations throughout the state. Anyone eligible must apply for assistance by June 12, but people are asked to file by June 3 to expedite processing.

Federal Aid System roads are exceptions to FEMA funding.

Any FAS roads damaged during this disaster declaration will only be eligible for assistance through the Federal Highway Administration Emergency Relief Program.

County emergency managers will be out next week to assess damage.
