Sunshine League’s season starts

The Alexandria Angels opened its first-ever Sunshine League amateur baseball game with a 10-5 loss to the Mitchell Mad Dogs Sunday at Cadwell Park.

The Alexandria Angels opened its first-ever Sunshine League amateur baseball game with a 10-5 loss to the Mitchell Mad Dogs Sunday at Cadwell Park.

Arin Boschee started the game for the Mad Dogs and pitched six innings and gave up four runs on four hits. Boschee struck out six and had two walks. Rich Wiese pitched the final three innings of the game and picked up the win. He gave up one run on three hits, struck out three and walked one.

Offensively for the Mad Dogs, Jordon Piper had two hits, walked twice, had an RBI and scored once. Billy Hamilton scored three runs as well as the Mad Dogs had 10 hits as a team.

Jordan Gau was tagged with the loss for the Angels. He went 7 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits, walked six and struck out six. Chris Marek came on in relief and gave up three runs.

Alexandria had six hits total with Cory Marek hitting an RBI double.

The Mad Dogs are 2-0 in the Sunshine League and play Chamberlain at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cadwell Park.

Dimock-Emery 24, Parkston Rock Bass 0 (5 innings)

PARKSTON — Thomas Pickett threw a perfect game for Dimock-Emery and Jason Schmidt hit two grand slams as Dimock-Emery beat the Parkston Rock Bass 24-0 in five innings Sunday in a Sunshine League game..

Pickett struck out eight batters as Dimock-Emery improved to 3-1 and won its opening Sunshine League game.

Besides the two grand slams, Schmidt added another hit and had nine RBIs and scored five runs. Phil Johnson knocked in five runs and had two hits — a double and a three-run home run. Doug Sudbeck also had a three-run home run and Sam Pisphke scored five runs.

The game was the Parkston Rock Bass’ first game of the year and is 0-1.

Dylan Mogck pitched two innings to take the loss.

Dimock-Emery plays at 8 p.m. Thursday in Emery against Alexandria.

Parkston Mudcats 9, Corsica 0

CORSICA — Brady Nolz struck out 21 batters as the Parkston Mudcats opened up its Sunshine League season with a 9-0 win over Corsica.

Nolz pitched all nine innings and held Corsica, 0-2 overall and in the Sunshine League, to two hits.

Pat Harris had four hits — one doubles and three singles — and four RBIs for Parkston, which is 6-0 on the year. Cade Hearnen, Tyler Nolz and Brady Nolz all had two hits.

Derrek Bultjie took the loss for Corsica as he pitched six innings, gave up eight runs and 10 hits.

Parkston travels to Spearfish for three games this weekend. On Friday, Parkston plays the Spearfish Lookouts at 6 p.m. and plays the Dell Rapids Mudcats at 8 p.m. Parkston plays the Rapid City A’s at noon Saturday. Parkston’s next Sunshine League game is against Delmonst at 7 p.m. Sunday in Parkston.

Corsica plays at 7 p.m. Sunday in Corsica against Alexandria.

Platte 17, Delmont 16

PLATTE — After giving up the lead, Platte came back to beat Delmont 17-16 Sunday in the Sunshine League opener for both teams.

Platte had a 12-5 lead going into the seventh inning before Delmont scores five runs in the seventh inning and six in the top of the ninth inning to take a 16-12 lead.

Platte responded with five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Jarod Meyerink had two hits in the game, including the walk-off single and a home run and two RBIs. Keith Cutler added a home run, two singles and three RBIs. Brian Oberbrockling hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning and Audie Kuipers had three hits — all singles.

Jared Boehmer pitched three innings to get the win for Platte.

Tom Heissinger took the loss for Delmont as he also pitched three innings. Scott Redd and Jordan Kocer both had four singles and three RBIs for Delmont.

Platte plays at 2 p.m. Sunday at home against the Parkston Rock Bass and Delmont plays at 7 p.m. Sunday in Parkston against the Parkston Mudcats.

Saturday’s games

Parkston Mudcats 8, Avon 4

AVON — Tyler Nolz struck out 15 batters as the Parkston Mudcats beat Avon 8-4 on Saturday.

Nolz pitched seven innings and gave up two hits. He also had two hits — both singles.
