CATCHING UP: Schuch honored by Summit League

Bon Homme graduate Michelle Schuch was named the Summit League track and field athlete of the week, it was announced Tuesday.
It was the first time Schuch, a senior at South Dakota State University, was honored with the weekly award after she finished sixth in the discus at the Arizona State Invitational last week in Tempe, Ariz.
Schuch had a throw of 156-feet-1-inch, which is the best mark in the Summit League this season. Schuch also posted a mark of 157-3 in the hammer throw, which was goo for fifth-best in the league this year.
The Jackrabbits’ men’s and women’s track and field teams continue the outdoor season with the Missouri Relays on Friday and Saturday in Columbia, Mo. SDSU also will have athletes compete in the Vance Butler Invitational on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
n Parkston native Jeff Harris stole home in the top of the ninth inning for the University of Sioux Falls’ baseball team in its 7-6 come-from-behind win over Cal State San Marcos on March 23 in San Marcos, Calif.
Harris, a senior for the Cougars, went 1-for-3 at the plate in the game and scored a run in USF’s five-run ninth.
Harris has started 13 games this season for the Cougars. He has eight hits — including three doubles — and has scored seven runs so far this season for DSU.
USF is 8-6 overall entering Wednesday night’s game against Mount Marty in Yankton.
n Freeman native Jake Weier went 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Dakota State University baseball team in a win against Mount Marty on March 24 in Yankton.
Weier, a junior infielder for the Trojans, and DSU are scheduled to play at Valley City State (N.D.).
n University of South Dakota sophomore Alexa Duling was second in Section 2 of the 400-meter hurdles at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Duling’s time was the fifth-fastest in the event, which had five sections run.
USD will compete at the Vance Butler Inviational outdoor meet on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
