Monday area basketball roundup: Corsica/Stickney, Dakota Christian advance in 12B

Fourth-ranked Corsica/Stickney jumped out to a big lead early in its 65-30 win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Monday at the Corn Palace in a District 12B game. Emily Van Roekel led Corsica/Stickney (17-3) with 18 points and Whitney Kuyper scored 12 points. C/S forced Tripp-Delmont/Armour (2-21) to 32 turnovers. LaNae Fuerst scored 11 points for TDA and Kalli Batterman grabbed 12 rebounds and scored eight points. Corsica/Stickney plays Dakota Christian in the finals of the District 12B tournament at the Corn Palace Friday. Tripp-Delmont/Armour ends its season 2-20.

Dakota Christian 56, Andes Central 45

Dakota Christian had a 15-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and didn’t look back in its 56-45 win over Andes Central Monday at the Corn Palace in the District 12B tournament.

Chelsie Nelson led Dakota Christian (10-11) with 12 points and six assists, Katelyn Lieuwen scored 12 points and Sara DeWaard grabbed 12 rebounds.

Andes Central (10-9) was led by Morgan Flying Hawk’s 17 points and seven rebounds. Jenna Winckler scored 10 points and Kelli Winckler had eight points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Dakota Christian plays Friday against Corsica/Stickney at the Corn Palace in the finals of the District 12B tournament. Andes Central ends its season 10-9.

Avon 51, Ethan 36

SCOTLAND — Avon held Ethan to 23 percent shooting in its 51-36 win Monday in Scotland in the first round of the District 11B tournament.

Avon shot 50 percent from the field and had a 28-12 lead at halftime.

Lanae VanGerpen led Avon with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Paige Vilhauer scored 13 points.

Both Shelly Tilberg and Darbi Gustafson scored 12 points for Ethan.

Avon plays Freeman Thursday in Scotland in the semifinals of the District 11B tournament. Ethan’s season ends with a record of 5-16.

Scotland 67, Menno 44

SCOTLAND — Scotland’s defense forced 21 turnovers in its 67-44 win over Menno Tuesday in the first round of the District 11B tournament.

Aisha Abbink led Scotland (11-10) with 25 points, Haley Brunke scored 16 points and Kennidy Asche grabbed nine rebounds.

Menno was led by Katelyn Kotalik’s 15 points and Courtney Kessler scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Scotland plays Freeman Academy Thursday at home in the semifinals of the District 11B tournament. Menno’s season ends with a record of 4-17.

White River 39, Colome 36

COLOME — White River came back from a big early deficit to beat Colome 39-36 in the District 13B playoffs Monday.

Colome (7-13) had a 13-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led at halftime and the end of the third quarter.

Marisa Medicine Bear had a double-double for White River (8-13) with 10 points and 12 rebounds, Maci Gillen scored 14 points and Lene Wright grabbed nine rebounds and scored eight points.

White River shot 35 percent compared to 13 percent for Colome.

Skylar Forgey scored 13 points and Morgan Hughes grabbed nine rebounds for Colome, which hit 22-of-34 free throws.

Colome’s season is done and White River plays Kadoka Area today.

Boys’ basketball

Hanson 61, Scotland 46

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson’s Pierce Smith had 29 points and 12 rebounds in a 61-46 win over Scotland

Cole Wenande had five assists and five steals. Hanson was 25-of-51 from the field, 6-of-9 from the free-throw line and had 15 turnovers.

Scotland was led by Trevor Larson, who had 21 points. Nick Settje had 16 points.

Scotland was 18-of-44 from the field, 3-of-4 from the free-throw line and had 22 turnovers.

Hanson (13-7) plays in the district tournament next week, while Scotland (8-12) plays in its district tournament next week.

Gregory 44, Platte-Geddes 40

PLATTE — Gregory’s double-digit halftime lead was too much for Platte-Geddes to overcome in the Gorillas 44-40 win Monday.

Sid Eagle Star led Gregory (9-9) with 17 points and eight rebounds and Aaron Schmitz scored 15 points.

Platte-Geddes (10-10) got 11 points from Matthew Randall.

Platte-Geddes won the junior varsity game 46-37.

Gregory plays Friday at Wagner and Platte-Geddes plays Gregory again Tuesday in the District 13B playoffs. The site is yet to be determined.

McCook Central/Montrose 61, Bridgewater-Emery 25

SALEM — Ninth-ranked McCook Central/Montrose pulled away from Bridgewater-Emery in the second quarter for a 61-25 win Monday.

Jay Huls led McCook Central/Montrose (17-2) with 17 points, Shayne Gottlob and Andy Kappenman both scored 10 points and Jordan Wolf grabbed 10 rebounds.

MC/M shot 47 percent and held Bridgewater-Emery (13-7) to 18 percent shooting. MC/M also outrebounded B-E 47-20.

Both Tyson Kayser and Darin Bartscher scored six points for Bridgewater-Emery.

McCook Central/Montrose plays Friday at Baltic and Bridgewater-Emery plays Tuesday against Marion in the first round of the District 7B playoffs.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 65, Marty 28

MARTY — Kelli Batterman had 34 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Tripp-Delmont/Armour girls’ basketball team past Marty 65-28 in the first round of the District 12B tournament Saturday.

TDA’s Jessica Sandau had 10 points and Julie Mingo had four assists. Batterman and Lanae Fuerst each had five steals.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour was 26-of-65 from the field and 13-of-16 from the free-throw line. It had 25 turnovers.

Marty’s Krishelle Shields had 15 points and Rose Drapeaux had 10 rebounds.

Avon 62, South Central 48

AVON — Chance Roth had a team-high 19 points in a 62-48 win over South Central Saturday in a boys’ high school basketball game.

Luke VanGerpen had 12 points for Avon, which hit 51 percent of its shots from the field.

South Central’s Derek Sachtjen had a game-high 21 points. South Central hit 33 percent of its field goals and 73 percent of its free throws.

South Central had 13 turnovers to Avon’s seven.
