WATERTOWN — Eighth-grader Rebecca Sadler was Mitchell’s top performer during the second day of the South Dakota State gymnastics meet Saturday in Watertown with an 11th place finish in the all-around.

Sadler finished with a score of 36.12 in the all-around, including a seventh-place finish in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 8.95.

“It’s fantastic Rebecca can go in as an eight-grader and hit on all four of the events,” Mitchell coach Audra Rew said. “Out of eight routines, she did them as well as anyone can do. I see bright things ahead for her.”

Mitchell’s next highest score in the all-around was 35.43 by Emily Paulson for 16th place.

“Emily just had a few tiny little errors,” Rew said. “Overall, she did a great job.”

Nicole Wittstruck finished 34th in the all-around with a score of 30.95.

Rew said the team was a bit stronger on the first day of the meet, which was the team day, but she prefers it that way.

“I feel like there were some very spectacular performances and kids that were shaky, but we were strong on the team day,” said Rew of Mitchell’s sixth-place finish on the first day of the meet. “I would rather have them hit on the team day.”

“Overall, we had some kids that had potential to place in some events, but they didn’t quite have the day for it. That’s just the way it goes sometimes.”

Watertown took the top two places in the all-around with Jalyn Carrico finishing first with a score of 37.95 and Lexy Morris was second with a score of 37.82. Carrico also won the floor routine (9.65) and Morris grabbed the top spot in the vault (9.90).

Quinci Herll was Mitchell’s top performer in the floor routine with a score of 8.98.

Despite a subpar second day, Rew said she is looking since the team doesn’t have a single senior on the roster.

“It’s fun to go around and get comments on how much our kids have improved and performed against juniors and seniors,” she said. “They know they will be great in the future. We just need to get back to the gym in the summer

“I believe in these girls, and there will be good things in sight for the future.”
