The Sioux Falls area went wild for the Great Plains Zoo’s recent membership deal on Keloland Spotlight, setting several new sales records, and helping the Zoo expand its membership base.

On Monday, Feb. 14, people could purchase a new, one-year family membership for $35 through Keloland Spotlight. Family memberships normally cost $72. The end result was over 2,400 new Zoo members.

Rich Abild of Keloland Spotlight estimated that two memberships were purchased every minute from 7 a.m. to midnight on Feb. 14. He said the previous single day sales record – 1,600 – was set by a local retailer.

“We are thrilled about the response to this offer,” said Elizabeth A. Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo. “Memberships help build exciting new exhibits and bring cool new animals to our Zoo.”

Current Zoo members are encouraged to watch for special members-only deals in the coming months.

The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4 p.m. Visit the Zoo online at www.greatzoo.org or call 605-367-7003 for more information about the Zoo and Museum.
