Mitchell had the largest increase on sales tax revenue of the state’s 10 largest cities.

Mitchell saw a jump of 4.9 percent from 2009 to 2010, according to a report from the state Department of Revenue & Regulation.

Mitchell Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson said Monday she is preparing a report on 2010 sales tax revenue. The report will be given to Mayor Lou Sebert and the Mitchell City Council at its Monday night meeting, Wilson said.

According to the Revenue Department report, eight of South Dakota’s 10 largest cities posted an increase in sales tax revenue in 2010. Sioux Falls was up 4.05 percent.

Two saw a decline. Yankton had a .59 percent downturn and Aberdeen reported a 1.42 percent drop.

In 2009, Yankton, Aberdeen and Pierre were the only cities with increased sales tax revenue over the previous year.
