Cersosimo posts 39.150, helps SUU beat UCLA

Mitchell native Brooke Cersosimo recorded a career high in the all-around competition Friday for the Southern Utah University gymnastics team. Cersosimo scored a 39.150 to take second place individually in the all-around to lead SUU to an upset win over No. 5 UCLA in Cedar City, Utah. Southern Utah won the event 194.75-194.425. Cersosimo’s all-around score of 39.150 was the 25th best score posted in the country this season as of Jan. 17.

Mitchell native Brooke Cersosimo recorded a career high in the all-around competition Friday for the Southern Utah University gymnastics team.

Cersosimo scored a 39.150 to take second place individually in the all-around to lead SUU to an upset win over No. 5 UCLA in Cedar City, Utah. Southern Utah won the event 194.75-194.425.

Cersosimo’s all-around score of 39.150 was the 25th best score posted in the country this season as of Jan. 17.

The 5-foot-2 junior recorded a career-high 9.750 to place fourth in the uneven parallel bars. She also scored a 9.800 to tie for fourth on the balance beam.

Cersosimo also scored a 9.775 to tie for sixth in the vault competition and had a 9.825 to take second on the floor for the Thunderbirds.

SUU hosts Sacramento State at 7 p.m. Friday.

- Mitchell native Andrea Budahl, a freshman on the South Dakota State University swimming and diving team, won three events in the Jackrabbits dual against St. Louis University (Mo.) on Saturday.

Budahl won the 1,000-meter freestyle in 10 minutes, 35.94 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:11.18. She also contributed to the first-place 400 freestyle relay team, which included Alexandra Hoffman, Shauna Foor and Kaylin Caron.

That team finished in a time of 3:39.59.

Budahl also won the 400 individual medley (4:45.19) and the 500 freestyle (5:14.07).

SDSU competes on Sunday against St. Louis University.

- Former Hanson High School standout Megan Doyle scored 17 points and had four assists and four rebounds for the Augustana College women’s basketball team on Saturday.

Augustana lost to eighth-ranked Wayne State University 73-69 in Wayne, Neb.

- Former Platte-Geddes athlete Teri VerSteeg added three points and two rebounds in 10 minutes of action for Augustana. VerSteeg is a 6-0 junior from Platte.
