A man accused of accidentally shooting his friend and classmate has resumed studies at Mitchell Technical Institute.
Julie Brookbank, director of marketing and public information at MTI, said William Davis, 21, resumed classes on Jan. 5, the official start of the spring semester.
Davis is accused of shooting Matt Montag, 19, on Dec. 4 in a Mitchell rental house. Police have called the shooting accidental but reckless.
After pleading not guilty to first-degree manslaughter in court in December, Davis was released to the custody of his parents.
Under a court order, Davis was granted permission to return to MTI as a student under the custody of a designated third party.
At that time, MTI President Greg Von Wald testified that, in his judgment, Davis could return and complete his final six months of education in the school’s utilities technology program “without having to impose any type of hard feelings on anyone else.”
