With one 6-foot-8 player and three more who are 6-foot-4, the Aberdeen Christian boys’ basketball team had a clear size advantage against Mitchell Christian.
However, Mitchell Christian hit enough 3-pointers early in the game in a 55-29 win at Mitchell Christian School Saturday.
“We knew they were going to be a lot bigger than us, so our plan was to make it a full court game,” Mitchell Christian head coach Tom Young said. “The kids did a good job, and it was by far our best team effort this year.”
Aberdeen Christian (4-3) easily outrebounded Mitchell Christian (5-4) 30-13, but the Eagles forced 21 turnovers and hit eight 3-pointers.
“They really hit the 3-pointer and beat us in transition,” Aberdeen Christian head coach Dave Palmer said. “They beat us up and down the floor.”
Mitchell Christian had the lead for most of the first half and a 28-17 lead at halftime. The Eagles opened up the game in the third quarter as they outscored Aberdeen Christian 21-5.
“The third quarter and the start of the game are always big,” Young said. “We usually start out slow to begin the game, but (Saturday) we did a pretty good job early.”
Luke Olsen led Mitchell Christian with 14 points and four steals. Jared Feiner hit four 3-pointers for 12 points and Joe Bosworth hit three 3-pointers and finished with 12 points.
Mitchell Christian hosts Avon Tuesday.
