Dakota Wesleyan women's basketball team commits 24 turnovers, falls to Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team committed 24 turnovers in a 63-50 loss to Dordt College (Iowa) in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Wednesday night.

The Tigers (5-14 overall, 1-8 GPAC) saw Dordt score 20 points off their turnovers.

“We turned the ball over way too much out front and they capitalized,” DWU coach Jason Christensen said. “We were a step slow tonight.”

Dordt led by two with 10 minutes left before going on a 12-1 run over the next four minutes to open the game up.

The Tigers led by as many as nine early on and trailed by as much as 14 in the second half.

“I didn’t think we did a very good job defensively of getting into position,” Christensen said. “But the story of the game was the fact that we had 24 turnovers. That’s just way too many.”

DWU was led by Liz Lamb with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Brittany Pritchard added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers.

Dordt was paced by Brianna Spronk with 13 points.

DWU hosts Concordia at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Corn Palace.
