MIAMI, Fla. — The Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball team picked up a 68-52 win over St. Thomas University Tuesday in the Miami Gardens Classic.

Brady Wiebe had a team-high 16 points for the Tigers, while German Madueno had 14 and Larry Swann had 12.

“We had plenty of contribution,” DWU coach Shane Murphy said. “I thought we got some good minutes from our starters and some quality play from the guys off the bench.”

Wiebe also had a team-high five rebounds for the Tigers, who play again Thursday against Xavier University in Miami.

The Tigers led 33-23 at halftime and had 18 turnovers to St. Thomas’ 21.

“I think we started out nice defensively and set a tone for the remainder of the game,” Murphy said. “We played good enough in spurts, and it was overall a good game for us.”

The Tigers were 22-of-48 from the field and knocked down 17 of their 28 free throws.

Dakota Wesleyan (12-4) has today off before its game with Xavier University (12-0) Thursday.

“A lot of guys are out enjoying the sunshine and warm weather,” Murphy said. “(Today) the guys have the day off, so that’ll be nice for them.”
