P-G, AC dominate SCC selections

The Platte-Geddes and Andes Central high school volleyball teams dominated the South Central Conference this season.

The Platte-Geddes and Andes Central high school volleyball teams dominated the South Central Conference this season.

And it showed by on the all-conference team, which was announced Wednesday.

The Black Panthers and the Eagles each got four players on the 12-player first team, which was voted on by conference coaches.

Platte-Geddes’ Emily Johnson, Kellee Griese, Kalli Kuipers and Chelsea Biehl were joined by Andes Central’s Brieanne Johnson, Jenna Winckler, Araya Cournoyer and Christen Pavel on the first team.

Also named to the first team were Gregory’s Taylor Anshutz, Colome’s Collene Cahoy, Dakota Christian Chelsie Nelson and South Central’s Dani Baker.

The honorable mention team consisted of Andes Central’s Darci Johnson, Gregory’s Paxten Johnson and Tanya Talsma and Colome’s Becca Kartak and Morgan Hughes.

Both Platte-Geddes and Andes Central begin play at their state tournaments at 1:45 p.m. today. Platte-Geddes faces Sioux Falls Christian in Class A action in Aberdeen, while Andes Central takes on Mount Vernon in Class B play in Huron.
