HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Wagner, Platte-Geddes, Highmore-Harrold head to state

COLTON — The Wagner volleyball team defeated Tri-Valley in three sets to win the Region 5A title Tuesday in Colton.

Set scores of the match were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-13.

Wagner was led by Brianna Cuka, Devon Brecke, LaShawn Medicine Horn and Alexa Cimpl on offense.

Cuka had 13 kills, Brecke had nine kills and 16 digs, Cimpl had nine kills and Medicine Horn had seven kills.

“We came out strong right away, but we were a little tense on serve-receive,” Wagner coach Amy Tyler said. “We trailed much of the second game, but we found a way around their blockers and pulled it out.”

Jessa Doom had 40 assists and 10 digs, while Talia Peters had 11 digs.

“Jessa does a really good job of reading the defense,” Tyler said. “She also plays really good defense, and that’s always helpful from your setter.”

Wagner — the two-time defending Class A state champion — is 30-2.

Platte-Geddes 3,

Bennett County 0

MISSION — The Platte-Geddes volleyball team is headed back to the state tournament for the second year in a row.

The Black Panthers defeated Bennett County on Tuesday evening by set scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-20 in Region 7A action.

Emily Johnson and Kellee Griese led the way for P-G’s offense. Johnson had 16 kills and Griese had eight.

Johnson also finished with one block, 10 digs and an ace, while Griese had 14 digs and six service points.

Kalli Kuipers had 24 assists, seven digs and three service points in the match. Elaina Deadrick had an assist, nine digs and six service points, Chelsea Biehl had six kills and one dig and Kelli Sprik had two digs, four aces and 18 service points. Maddy Tegethoff added seven digs.

Platte-Geddes (25-3) took third at last year’s Class A state tournament.

Highmore-Harrold 3, Herreid/Selby Area 0

SELBY — Highmore-Harrold won the Region 3B title on Tuesday, downing Herreid/Selby Area 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19. The win vaults H-H into the Class B state tournament. No individual stats were reported.

Edgemont 3, Colome 0

COLOME — Edgement ended Colome’s run with a 25-14, 28-26, 25-23 win in the Region 7B championship match on Tuesday. Edgement earns a trip to state with the win. No individual stats were reported.

Mobridge-Pollock 3, Miller 0

GETTYSBURG — Mobridge-Pollock earned a trip to the Class A state tournament with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 win over Miller on Tuesday for the Region 6A crown.

Miller was led by Alexis Watts’ six kills. Kate Hamiel had 19 digs and Mallory Fischer added 19 assists. Miller ends its season at 20-9.
