Tigers sweep Mount Marty in home finale

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team swept Mount Marty College 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at Fosness Arena on the DWU campus.

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team swept Mount Marty College 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at Fosness Arena on the DWU campus.

The win snapped a seven-match losing streak and ended the Tigers’ home schedule.

Senior Meghan Cronberg finished with a game-high 10 kills, Ashley Kley added six and Kacie Sanderson added five for the Tigers, who recognized seven seniors on senior night.

Seniors Wendy Schmaltz, Carina Fesenmaier, Kalissa Wade, Kley, Cronberg, Kara Robertson and Sarah Stahlke all were honored.

Fesenmaier had 23 assists and junior Brooke Warne had 20 digs for DWU, which is 9-21 overall and 4-11 in GPAC play.

Kley added 12 digs, Fesenmaier had 12 and Stacie Brinker had 11.

The Lancers are 4-19 overall and 0-14 in the GPAC.

Carlie Lambert had four kills for Mount Marty and Tina Rowbotham led a trio of setters with nine assists. Briana Wuestewald paced the Lancers’ defense with 15 digs.

The Tigers will be on the road for their final three matches, beginning with a trip to Morris, Minn., to take on Bethany Lutheran College and the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday.

DWU will then travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to face GPAC rival Briar Cliff University on Wednesday.
