Ardyth Darlene Karel, 80, Dallas, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at the nursing home in Winner, of cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Methodist Church, Gregory. Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery, Gregory. Visitation will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Kotrba Funeral Home, Gregory.

She was born on May 28, 1930, south of Gregory to Wilhelm and Emily (Lopour) Warnkvist.

She spent her childhood on the farm and attended rural school.

When she completed her schooling, she joined her sisters in Sioux City, Iowa, where she was employed in a battery factory.

On Feb. 7, 1949, she married Louie “Bud” Karel at Alcester.

They lived at first on the Holger Cassling place and began farming.

In 1950, they moved to the Doering homestead and eventually purchased that land and farmed there.

She is survived by her husband, three children: Gary and wife Linda, Sioux Falls; Sandra McBride and husband Mike; Dallas; and Jim and wife Terri, Bentonville, Ark., seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Sylvia Warnkvist, Gregory; and Marian Warnkvist; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, her parents and all four of her siblings.
