S.D. corn, soybean production estimates drop

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Estimates of corn and soybean production in South Dakota have dropped slightly. The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday pegged the state's corn crop at 616.3 million bushels, down 2 percent from the September forecast. The soybean crop was projected at 166 million bushels, down 3 percent from last month.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Estimates of corn and soybean production in South Dakota have dropped slightly.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday pegged the state's corn crop at 616.3 million bushels, down 2 percent from the September forecast. The soybean crop was projected at 166 million bushels, down 3 percent from last month.

Both crops are expected to be smaller than last year's.

USDA says South Dakota's sorghum, sunflower and dry edible bean crops also are expected to be down from last year. The alfalfa hay crop is projected at 6 million tons, 4 percent above last year’s production.
