Parkston native Kelli Fiegen was awarded after a busy weekend.

Fiegen, a middle hitter at South Dakota State University, was voted the Summit League’s offensive player of the week after some strong performances at the Iowa State Challenge this weekend.

She had 13 kills with only one error in 22 attempts against Florida International, finishing with a gaudy hitting percentage of .545.

Against No. 12 Iowa State, Fiegen pounded 13 kills with a hitting percentage of .321. She also had nine kills against Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sunday.

Over the weekend, she had 16 total blocks, but SDSU struggled as a team, going 0-3. Fiegen is second on the team in kills with 61 in six matches, but leads the team in blocks with 38 — twice as many as the next highest on the team.

The Jackrabbits are back in action this weekend, starting with a home match against University of Missouri-Kansas City on Friday. They host Southern Utah on Saturday. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m.

-- Former Hanson standout Shea Williams, from Alexandria, suffered a tough 38-7 loss to the University of Central Florida on Saturday. The University of South Dakota linebacker left his mark on the game, however, with seven tackles, six of which were unassisted. He also had a pass break-up.

The 6-foot-2, 224-pound junior is in his third year of seeing regular action and second year of starting. He got the call for all 10 games at outside linebacker last season and finished second on the team with 67 tackles.

The Coyotes (0-1) face another stiff road test when they visit the University of Minnesota at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

-- Dakota State University cross country runner Samantha (Warnke) Drealan finished fifth out of 38 runners at the Dakota Wesleyan Invitational on Friday at Wild Oak Country Club. The Fairfax native finished with a time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds.

The Trojans are back in action when they host the DSU/Herb Blakely Invitational at the Madison Country Club on Sept. 18.
