SPORTS BRIEFS: McIntyre takes eighth at DWU Invite

McIntyre takes 8th at home invite

The Dakota Wesleyan women’s cross country team got an eighth-place finish from Gail McIntyre at the DWU Invite on Friday at Wild Oak Golf Club.

The Rapid City native completed the course in 17 minutes, 1 second and teammate Abby Mettler took 19th, finishing in a time of 18:24. Aimee Lenocker took 25th with a time of 19:09. Kayleen Gupman (20:10.1) and Amanda Burton (20:10.94) took 29th and 30th, respectively.

Dordt College cruised to the team victory with a score of 15, led by race winner Michelle Steiger, who ended with a 15:48.

For the men, David Elliott led the Tigers, finishing with a time of 24:21, good for 31st place. Jared Fields was second on the team with a 25:11.41. DWU didn’t score as a team.

Dakota State took top honors in the men’s team race with a score of 20. Dakota State’s Andy Coy won the men’s race in a time of 21:18.

Pritchard in 9th at Siouxland Invite

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golfer Chris Pritchard shot a 79 and is in ninth place at the two-day Siouxland Invite, hosted by Dordt College and Northwestern College.

Pritchard’s scored helped the Tigers shoot a 328, which puts them in sixth place with the Northwestern JV team. Northwestern holds the lead, carding a 311.

Other scorers for the Tigers include Travis Johnson, Carson Moore and Adam Shiffermiller, who are all tied for 26th with 83s. Teammate Josh Hope shot an 85.

The meet concludes today at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa.

DWU tops two teams in 5 games

SIOUX FALLS — There were plenty of thrills in the Dakota Wesleyan’s 3-2 wins over Waldorf College and Valley City State in college volleyball action on Friday.

The Tigers triumphed 17-25, 25-15, 25-14, 21-25 and 16-14 over Waldorf thanks to 14 kills from Ashley Kley. Sarah Stahlke and Meghan Cronberg each had nine.Carina Fesenmaier had four aces to go with her match-high 43 assists. Brooke Warne had a team-high 16 digs.

DWU beat Valley City State (N.D.) 18-25, 13-25, 28-26, 26-12, 15-6 in another thrilling match. The Tigers staved off elimination in Game 3 and rallied with help from Kley, who added 15 kills.

Sigmund ties for 2nd at Quad

MADISON — Mitchell’s Phoenix Sigmund carded an 84, good enough for a tie for second place at the Madison Quadrangular at the Madison Country Club on Friday.

Sigmund shot a 39 on the front 9, but couldn’t duplicate that success, settling for a 45 on the back. The Kernels finished fourth with a score of 365.

Other scorers for Mitchell were JP Schmitz (92), Lakin Neugebauer (93) and Austen Iverson (96).

Watertown won the meet with a 338 behind medalist Nick Gottsleben and his 78.
