Legion all-stars split doubleheader

CHAMBERLAIN — The North team took the first game, but the South fought back to win the second game in a split of an all-star Legion baseball doubleheader Monday in Chamberlain. The North All-Stars won the first game 8-7 and the South took the second game 11-0. The North’s Cody Heumiller, of Howard/Salem, had a double, an RBI and a run in the first game. His team trailed 5-3 after the first inning, but scored five runs in the sixth to take a late lead.

CHAMBERLAIN — The North team took the first game, but the South fought back to win the second game in a split of an all-star Legion baseball doubleheader Monday in Chamberlain.

The North All-Stars won the first game 8-7 and the South took the second game 11-0.

The North’s Cody Heumiller, of Howard/Salem, had a double, an RBI and a run in the first game. His team trailed 5-3 after the first inning, but scored five runs in the sixth to take a late lead.

Offensively for the South, Josh Wagner and Calby Plooster, of Platte-Geddes, each had a single. Representing Chamberlain were Joe Hieb, Brian Zeman and Wesley Kroupa, who each had one hit. Hieb and Zeman each had an RBI. Wagner and Hieb each also spent time on the mound.

In the second game, the North team was held to two hits. Heumiller — who pitched three innings — had two walks and a stolen base.

For the South All-Stars, Holleman had two singles, two runs and two stolen bases.

Hieb had a double, two RBIs and Ryan Smith, of Chamberlain, had two walks, two runs and two stolen bases.

Both from Winner/Colome’s Legion team, John Rehak had a walk and a run and Ethan Vobr had a single, a walk, an RBI and scored two runs.

Also playing in the game was John Farner of Winner/Colome.
