DSU signs Baxa, Murtha, Weber

The Dakota State University volleyball team announced a list of eight volleyball recruits recently.

Among the list was Burke native Mandy Baxa, Dimock native Emma Murtha and Parkston native Sam Weber.

Baxa, a South Central graduate, is listed as a 6-foot middle and outside hitter. She was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain. She recorded 1,040 kills, 281 blocks, 140 aces and 1,107 digs during her prep career.

Murtha and Weber were both Parkston graduates.

Murtha, a 5-foot-10 middle hitter, was a three-year letterwinner and she led her team in blocks, kills and aces in her senior season. She finished her high school career with 620 kills, 187 aces, 506 digs and 282 blocks.

Weber is listed as a setter and defensive specialist. She was a two-year team captain, letterwinner and team’s most valuable player. She had 412 assists, 54 aces, 118 digs and 32 blocks at Parkston.

Also on the recruiting list for the Trojans, who open their season Aug. 27, is Pierre’s Mandi Atikins, Shayne Dwyer (Elmwood, Neb.), Mandy Frogner (Milbank), Lauren LaBar (Wibaux, Mont.) and Marisa Shigetomi (Honolulu, Hawaii).
